Confidentiality Policy

I am committed to respecting your privacy and your personal information. I only ask what I feel I need to know about you in order to develop strategies to support you, and am committed to collecting, using, storing, and disclosing your personal information responsibly. This means that I will not willingly share any information about you to anyone outside of my practice without your consent. In most circumstances I will ask for that consent in writing.

Limits of Confidentiality

There are situations where the law requires me to disclose your private information without your consent. This happens in specific circumstances which are considered serious. They fall under the following categories:

  • If I believe that you could be a danger to yourself or others.
  • If I have any reason to suspect that a child that you have talked about during your counselling session might be being abused or neglected.
  • If your records are subpoenaed by a court of law.
  • If I learn that another social worker has been sexually inappropriate with you.

Please advise me if it is foreseeable that third parties will be requesting copies of your notes. We can discuss your options.

I am happy to discuss your concerns regarding your privacy and storage of records at any time.
